The Warlock can bend a hollow patron’s hunger toward a light cause. Each stands on a knife's edge between two worlds: the crushing power behind them, and the fragile world before them.

The most profound act isn’t summoning the storm—it’s refusing to let the storm dictate the direction. Power only finds meaning when it is constrained by will. Otherwise, it is merely momentum. Momentum is power with no one home; it is a landslide, indifferent and inevitable. Will is the friction. It is the thing that turns against the grain. It costs something to hold back the tide, and that cost is exactly why it matters.

If will gives power its meaning, then beings without resistance—gods, immortals, eldritch horrors—are never truly alive. They are just cosmic momentum in motion. Perhaps the most human act isn’t choosing good over evil. It is choosing defiance over inevitability.

One of my favourite articles, Keystones, is in the running for Best Article of 2026! This is the biggest category I've ever been up for, and my first time in the big leagues. We won a newcomer category during the first Worldbuilding Awards, with Solaris being awarded the Most Beautiful New World, and we've tried to keep the iron hot. In 2023, we won Best Body of Work in Worldember 2023. Could this be the year where Solaris snags a spot in the sky alongside the heroes of World Anvil?

For those of you new to Solaris , it's a space opera set in our little solar system, inspired by mythology and the wonder of looking up at the stars. It's been a sparkly crystal paradise, up until the angelic armies of the sun attacked and laid Mercury to waste.

I write Solaris alongside my cowriter and fiancée Skye. All the art for Solaris is drawn by me in MS Paint, and I made my own theme. No AI or LLMs are involved in any step of the process. I can do all of this because of the wealth of knowledge shared here on the internet, so I try to do my part in sharing what I know as well. You can find a bunch of guides by me in the Post Script of Solaris, as well as links to resources I use, and I've been trying to update all my articles with a authors note about my inspirations.

This year I also got my second nomination for Strength & Honor with Operation War Dove, the article that gave me my first ever win on World Anvil when it was picked as the winning conflict article that Summer Camp. The overview of the tech of my setting, Crystal Technology, was also nominated for Pillars of Progress. Conflicting Calendars, Thermodynamic Magic, & Chapter 9

Fellow Worldsmiths,

How often do we let magic be "hand-wavy," or gloss over the logistical nightmare of how different cultures actually measure time?

In Raven & Quill Issue 6, I dive deep into the mechanics of Aithyris to address both of these issues, and I wanted to share some of that forge-labor with this community.

The Clocks of the Five Seas

If you've ever looked at the historical mess of the Julian and Gregorian calendars and thought, "I should do that to my characters," you'll understand "The Lag".

The ancient Shandaryn calendar of my setting uses a perfect 351-day solar year. But humanity couldn't leave the math alone. The trade-focused Therysians anchored their New Year to the Spring Equinox , while the traditional Vesprians anchored theirs to the Winter Solstice. The result? A predictable annual overlap where one nation is technically a full year behind the other for three months and a week. You can read the full mechanical breakdown in Calendars & Timekeeping.

The Somatic Economy & Thermodynamic Magic

I also touch on the physics of the "Shadow". Instead of treating darkness as just "bad lighting," I built it as an active endothermic vacuum. Because the medium of the Shadow is acoustically dead , moving a living soul through it creates intense "Friction of Identity". Magic isn't free; it's a zero-sum thermodynamic exchange.

The issue also features a personal journal entry about a recent lecture I attended, a fumbled question about entropy, and why the physical "connectedness" of the universe matters so much to the themes of my story.

Okay friends… I’ve finally finished my full deep-dive into one of the great kingdoms of Rhycullun, and yes, it absolutely ran away from me in the best way possible.

We’re talking Del Yerlusta - the ancient elven realm of living terraces, moon-pearl spires, unicorn omens, and the Seven sacred Elardail who literally grow from the leylines themselves. It is lush. It is dramatic. It is quietly judging everyone else from inside a very well-maintained forest.

It’s over 5,500 words (Sorry, not sorry), so this isn't a “quick scroll while you wait for the kettle to boil” situation. This is a cup of tea, cosy blanket, maybe cancel your evening plans kind of read. I regret nothing.

If you’re into kingdoms that choose patience over rash decisions, long-term stewardship over flashy domination, and connecting with the land and wildlife instead of conquering it… this one’s for you. Hello everyone,

Now that the #WorldEmber Awards Ceremony has passed, I can finally update my articles. And I do have some updates to make, along with some planned changes I intend to do. What are some of those changes?

The first being that I am working on a new background & world banner for my world of Arktoria to give it more of an original visual identity. I'll keep the current color scheme for now as I'm still tinkering with that in my mind. Once I finish making that changes, i"ll post a community update to inform my followers and the wider community.

The second is my plans to add more images to my articles overtime, although it will be in phases as I complete the artwork. I've already started doing with the relatively recent update I made to the Rogue profession which you can view below:

I confess: the map nerd in me took over. I realized the current satellite imagery for Vespria wasn't enough to satisfy the vision. So, instead of just writing, I spent the week rebuilding the Vesprian realms from the ground up in Photoshop to prepare for a massive InDesign overhaul.

Summer Camp has wrapped up, and I’m still buzzing with excitement! This year, my world of Crux Umbra was honored with three article category awards and the Community Award for Most Inspiring World - a truly unforgettable recognition.

While winning is amazing, what really made this experience special were the people who shared it with me.

I want to give a heartfelt thank you to:

• Tyrdal, my accountability buddy, who kept me on track and made sure I didn’t lose momentum.
• Keon, who cheered my world more than anyone else and lifted my spirits with extra motivation when I needed it most.
• Mochi, who is just as wonderfully chaotic and crazy as I am! Finding a kindred spirit in you has made my time here in WA even more fun.

A big thank you to the whole World Anvil community. Your support, ideas, and enthusiasm are what make this platform so magical. Summer Camp, and really any challenge, wouldn’t be the same without all of you.

And of course, the World Anvil team, for hosting such an inspiring event and giving us all the space to create, explore, and challenge ourselves.

This is one of the most personal pieces I’ve ever written.

Inspired by my experience living with PCOS, The Hollowing explores a silent, incurable affliction through a fantasy lens — one that reshapes bodies, futures, and identities.

It weaves together storytelling, worldbuilding, and illustration to give voice to what often goes unseen.

I’ve been working on this quietly for some time. The art took several attempts before it finally felt like it was saying what I needed it to.

This also became an exercise in writing more deeply for one of the characters in the novel I’m working on — grounding their experience in something real.

A new wind howls across the skies of Caemothas, heralding the rise of three legendary beings whose wings shaped the balance of the world itself—the Mythic Birds.

Born of primordial force and forged in the crucible of the Eclipse Epoch, these awe-inspiring creatures are not just symbols of elemental might—they are the ifirst of their kind/i, singular, world-shaping forces that leave echoes across the planes in the form of their descendants.

Ignivar, The First Flame

• The last ember of the fallen Primordial Ignaraxis, reforged into a radiant phoenix of rebirth.
• Wherever it flies, fire is not only feared—it is understood.
• Ignivar, The First Flame

• The frost-winged sentinel born from the harmony of ice and air.
• Stillness follows its flight. Entire wars have frozen in its presence.
• Hrímveirr, the Silent Gale

Raedrak, The Storm’s Heart

• Lightning incarnate. Willed into being by Voryn, it judges from the skies with thunderous wrath.
• Cities have fallen to its roar. Leylines bend in its wake.
• Raedrak, The Storm’s Heart

Their Progeny Walk the World…

Though these three are singular in power, the world echoes their essence in the form of rare and powerful elemental beasts:

• Phoenixs – Rare firebirds descended from the spark of Ignivar. Said to be immortal flames in winged form, they burn not only with heat, but with memory.
• Glacivern – Crystalline ice birds born of Hrímveirr’s silent wings. They channel elemental cold and reflect spellcraft like living mirrors.
• Thunderbirds – Storm-charged raptors that crackle with Raedrak’s wrath. Their screeches herald skyfire and calamity.

Each species is a myth made manifest—an echo of a time when elementals were more than beasts… they were legends.

From mountaintops to the upper skies, from sacred storms to deep glacial vaults, their presence reshapes the balance of Caemothas.

Caemothas is Alive – New Tectonic & Ley Line Maps!

After a lot of work, I’ve finally finished two major layers of the world map:

Tectonic Plate Maps – Showing oceanic and continental plates, including fault types and microplates.

Ley Line Overlay – Highlighting the world’s magical energy network, with glowing paths for healthy and scarred ley lines.

These maps shape the geography, magic, and even the history of Caemothas—tying into volcanoes, arcane nexuses, and lost civilizations.
