Defenses

Winslow's Wake sits about 13 miles from shore at a height of 18 feet above the water, making attacks from both land and ship difficult to achieve.

History

As the world fell and the waters rose, landmasses which once held towns and cities were overtaken by the irradiated waves. This resulted in wide stretches of shallows from the sunken land - presenting a danger to anyone sailing nearby. To combat this hazard, a screwpile lighthouse dubbed Winslow’s Wake was erected in the water directly east of the Cheapskate Beaches, marking the beginning of a large shoal when sailing out of Dominus Columbia. If one saw its light as red when approaching, it was a signal that they were heading directly for shallows and should course correct.   Time passed and the silt beneath the Cheapskate Bay shifted, causing the shallow water being marked by Winslow's Wake to become less treacherous. At an unknown point in time, whoever was tending to the lighthouse left, as more and more ships ignored the unnecessary warning. The Wake decayed, as things tend to do, for an uncertain time span before its current residents began repairs around 121 DC.
