Crystal City

At the tip of a subterranean peninsula jutting from the Bailey into the bay sits Crystal City. A grotto of glass and concrete built of pre-fall engineering and post-fall adaptation, the skylights which once illuminated its underground avenues are now portholes into the aquatic world overhead. The only approaches to Crystal City are either underwater, accessible by bathysphere or diving, or via a long trek through the ancient subway tunnels. This has made the settlement challenging for the Dominus to bring under its auspice, though attempts have been made. Crystal City became a thriving privateer port during the war with the Ironworks, with a steady flow of money and material from the Dominus making it almost a de facto naval base. With the war’s end though the letters of marque expired and marines were demobilized, filling Crystal City with unemployed buccaneers ripe for recruitment by criminal enterprises.   Along with Princes Port and The Mills, Crystal City forms one point of a triangle that controls crime across the Bailey. While it does conduct perfectly legal trade with the Bailey, especially in rare materials and artifacts dredged from the surrounding sea floor, the tunnels from Crystal City are also a major artery of contraband and smuggling. Many of its residents never gave up their old professions, and raucous auctions of pirated goods are a feature of daily life there. These auctions can range from simple trinkets to entire vessels, and its often said there’s little you can’t find there on the right day for the right price.
