Remnant Rights Act of 77DC

The Remnant Rights Act, enacted in the year DC 77 within the demense of Dominus Columbia, represented a significant advancement in the protection of Crustacea Remnants and other non-Lineage entities within Dee Cee. The legislation was born out of a growing concern for the ethical treatment and conservation of the increasing populations of feral Remnants in the isolated areas of the Bailey, which had been increasingly subjected to exploitation through unregulated hunting and experimentation, as only registered Residents enjoyed legal protections. By prohibiting such practices (except under strictly controlled conditions for approved scientific research) the Act aimed to foster a harmonious coexistence between Lineage Residents and the diverse non-Lineage inhabitants of the Bailey. It granted legal recognition to Crustacea Remnants as sentient entities deserving of rights, including habitat protection and freedom from cruelty, while establishing penalties for violations to ensure compliance. Since its implementation, the Act has led to a slow cultural shift towards greater respect for lower-Lineage life forms, though the Bailey still has far to go (in one direction or the other, depending on who's advocate you listen to).
