Angler Saltwise

Background

For the most part recent emigres from farther East, the Bailey has recently undergone a significant upswell in populations of Saltwise who have developed adaptions for shallow water living. No one is really sure the exact cause of the upswell, though given that it occurred right around the start of the Great Horde, the common theory is that they sought the safety of being near Dominus Columbia when the Horde hit and then just never left.

There is some contention between the residents of the Bailey and their new shallow water neighbors, however. For one, the Bailey does not recognize the waters around it as counting for purposes of having been born 'within Dominus Columbia'; considering them outsiders who must serve the full 5 years of civil service with The Drafted Service in order to be granted citizenship. Being on the walls also means being away from the waters that they thrive in for several years, making it extra harsh on the Angler Saltwise and leading them to have a very limited number of citizens within their ranks, with many Angler Saltwise who have earned citizenship actively working to distance themselves from the rest of the Angler's and the reputation that they've gained...

Unfortunately, as is often the case when a large group moves into a previously unoccupied space with no infrastructure during a massive supply shortage... issues often arise, and rather than relying on begging, or charity, or scraping by, some of their number resorted to taking what they needed from those who to their eyes had plenty from surrounding settlements close to the water.

Performing quick raids and then fading back into the waters. The most infamous of these groups are the The Anglers pirate group, and often the first thing that comes to mind when a resident of the Bailey sees an Angler Saltwise.

(Out of Character note: If playing an Angler Saltwise, expect to have a good deal of suspicion and mistrust from the many NPCs in the Bailey, and you may have a harder time engaging in political plots directly. That said, there's always a different class of person happy to embrace the shunned...)

Costume and Roleplay Requirements

Angler Saltwise are adapted to shallower waters than their Deepwater cousins, and as a result tend to have darker, muddier hues and more heavy patterning that helps their skin blend in with the murky rocks of the Bay's shores. In addition, they often wear a plethora of gear and (diving-appropriate) equipment about their persons, as eking out an existence in the flooded ruins of the Patomic Bay exposes them to new and interesting dangers every day.
